Retire Australia and Unilodge are large and successful national businesses formed by Russell McCart and his partners. They followed the Pacifica doctrine of being ahead of the curve, aggregating, adding efficiency through lean professional management and thereby adding great value.
Retire Australia was founded in early 2006 it became an early consolidator of retirement villages in Australia. Retire Australia became the largest private operator and developer of retirement villages in Australia up until the time of it’s sale to NZ Super and Infratil Ltd for $640m in December 2014. At that time the business consisted of 28 retirement villages across Qld, NSW and SA, with approxiamely 3,800 apartments housing 5,500 retirees and was developing an additional 200 retirement apartments p.a
Unilodge Student Accommodation was acquired (for $24m) in 2007. At the time Unilodge operated 3,600 student beds in Australia and New Zealand across 13 properties. The business was sold in 2010 for ($65m) having increased properties under management to 24 with just under 8,000 beds making Unilodge the largest privately owned manager of students accommodation assets in Australia and New Zealand.
